You have to know notes to sing very well.

No… You don’t have to! Of course, it is good to know them but if you don’t  - it doesn’t matter! I think that music terms are so much more important than notes. Music terms are necessary to understand our voice and how to exercise it. The most important thing is to know how our voice works and to be able to use it properly. 

However, if the fact that you don’t know the notes disturbs you, you should start learning them. Here are some websites on which you can learn notes:
